Anonymous Usage Data

At Nym, your privacy is our priority. We believe that great products should respect your personal information while still learning how to get better. That’s why we’ve designed our data collection processes to be completely anonymous, secure, and focused only on improving your experience.

Why we collect anonymous usage data

In NymVPN, we collect a small set of anonymous technical details to help us:

  • Understand which operating systems and app versions people use
  • Improve performance, connection speed, and reliability
  • Optimise the app for different system environments
  • Ensure our features, like connection modes, work as expected

These insights allow us to fix issues faster, make the app more stable, and continuously improve your experience.

How do we ensure it’s anonymous?

Importantly, this information is completely anonymous and cannot be used to identify you.

All usage metrics are transmitted securely through the encrypted tunnel you are connected to when using the app, meaning:

  • If you’re using the app in Fast mode, the usage metrics are sent via the AmneziaWG (WireGuard) tunnel.
  • If you’re using the app in Anonymous mode, the usage metrics are sent via the mixnet tunnel.

As a result, we cannot link the received statistics with your IP address or any other identifiable network information.

What data we collect

Here’s exactly what we collect as part of anonymous usage insights:

✅ Operating system type (e.g., macOS, Windows, Linux)

✅ Operating system version (e.g., 14.4.1)

✅ CPU architecture (e.g., x86_64, arm64)

✅ App version (e.g., 1.5.0)

✅ Connection time (how long it takes to establish a connection)

✅ Connection mode (e.g., WireGuard, Mixnet)

✅ Anonymous stats ID (see the explanation below)

About the Anonymous Stats ID

The anonymous stats ID is a randomly generated, anonymous identifier created on your device. It is:

  • Not linked to your account, device ID, or personal identity
  • Stored only on your device
  • Reset if you reset your device identity
  • Used solely to group anonymous usage reports together (e.g., tracking improvements over time)

The stats ID is hashed with a constant prefix for additional separation. It cannot be reverse-engineered to reveal personal information. Only the app on your device knows the original seed behind the stats ID, ensuring no one, including us, can trace it back to you.

What we do not collect

We do not collect:

🚫 Personal information

🚫 Payment information

🚫 Account identifiers

🚫 Device ID

🚫 Information about your internet activity or visited content

🚫 Your IP address

Your data, your choice

We believe you should always have control over your data. That’s why anonymous usage data collection is completely optional. You can enable or disable it anytime in your app settings under: Settings → Anonymous network stats

If you choose to disable it, we won't collect any of this information — your app experience remains unaffected. We’re committed to full transparency, which is why our code is open source and available for anyone to review.

Nym's promise

We will never compromise your privacy for analytics. Anonymous usage metrics exist solely to help us make the app better while keeping your personal information exactly that: personal.
