Nym Shipyard Developer Grantees

These grants will advance projects built for privacy, and for a better society
At Nym, it is important that more people can build for privacy in order to accelerate complete privacy protection on the new private internet. The network layer is one of the hardest to protect. With surveillance now powered by Machine Learning algorithms, privacy protections need to keep pace. This means protecting not just content and IP addresses but also patterns of communications and metadata.
Nym allows applications to easily integrate a mixnet, offering some of the strongest privacy protections to their end users. The aim is to ensure that our digital lives are safer and we can thrive in a free and surveillance-free society. Nym developer grants are here to support you in exactly this.
The Shipyard Developer Grant scheme
As such, Nym recently launched the next tranche of Shipyard grants, targeted at developers. With two open calls, Vinge Grant and Brier Grant, the Developer Grant scheme will help Nym support developers across a variety of projects.
Benefits of the scheme
The scheme will provide the winners with financial, dev, marketing and project support, to maximise their chances of a successful project. The grants scheme is designed so that projects can grow and apply for larger and larger pots and potentially graduate to the Nym Innovation fund if they wish to pursue investment opportunities.
Congratulations to the grantees
We are therefore pleased to announce the winners of the first Developer Grant scheme:
Winners were selected based on quality of ideas and code. Some of the projects are also known to the Nym community. No Trust Verify is a mixnode and creator of pastenym, DarkFi is known amongst the community as the ultimate lunarpunk privacy crew, and working on an interesting mixture of p2p tech and zkp, while dial0out was a former Nym core team member doing developer relations.
What can we look forward to from the grantees?
We are confident that the projects that are supported by the grant will play a strong role in our push for privacy as default.
From anonymity enhancement in network p2p protocols and text and file sharing in a privacy-preserving way to secure, private IoT hub providers and an accessible interface for interacting with Nym, the Nym community can expect to see this exciting work available by the first half of next year.
Next open calls
Going into 2023, there will be regular open calls for the Developer Grants scheme for both smaller and larger grants.
If you are interested in applying for the next round, do check out the work of this round’s grantees to get inspired. Nym has also released tools like the Nym SDK, which will continue to be fleshed out with new features such as zk-nyms (fka Coconut credentials). This will open more opportunities for devs to use the SDK and integrate apps with the mixnet.
Keep an eye out on Nym socials to find out when the next round opens.
