Nym usage is growing — and it is community led!

Learn how the mixnet is becoming increasingly available across apps and chains
The Nym roadmap shows 2023 as the year of end-user adoption. So to kick off the year, in this blogpost we will go over how the Nym mixnet can be used and integrated right now — highlighting how the Nym community is driving usage and ways you can get involved.
Nym for your everyday apps
NymConnect is a desktop application (in beta) that makes the mixnet usable with a variety of day-to-day applications. It sends traffic from Telegram chat, Keybase, Electrum wallet and Blockstream green wallet, through the mixnet — with an increasing number of apps being integrated. NymConnect uses something called a SOCKS5 proxy to send traffic from your app, through the mixnet to privacy-enhance your apps!
Do you have suggestions for other apps that you would like integrated into NymConnect? Reach out on your now privacy-enhanced Telegram and let us know!
We have also released a Nym SDK (typescript) to bring the power of the mixnet to any browser-based application. Try it out for yourself in this chat app demo!
The community has started building apps, with No Trust Verify taking the lead with an anonymous text sharing service:
We have given a first round of Developer Grants to support more user-facing apps, which include private IoT hub providers, privacy-preserving file sharing and an accessible interface for interacting with Nym and more…

Nym for blockchains
The Nym mixnet protects traffic across the entire internet, but it was always the plan that Web3 integrations would come early. Why? Because decentralised systems are especially vulnerable to network layer surveillance. But also because many of the people and projects in Web3 are highly motivated to correct the issues of Web 2.0, including the lack of privacy and the surveillance business model!
Inspired by the drama around Infura gathering IP addresses, we have seen community members step up and immediately write an Ethereum transaction submitter and shortly after an Ethereum RPC mixer making Ethereum available over the Nym mixnet.
Meanwhile, our own developer relations team is currently busy writing a proof-of-concept Cosmos broadcaster, which will be available soon — extending network layer privacy to the Cosmos ecosystem!
The Nym mixnet can be plugged into any chain to protect transactions from traffic pattern analysis and more.
