We are continuously working on new releases, and a new version of Nym is now available. If you are running a Nym mixnode v0.10.0 please consider upgrading it to the recent version v0.10.1.
What’s new in this version?
- Verifiable location, or verloc as we call it. This feature is part of a research project that we are currently undertaking into node location security. At this stage mixnodes send ping messages to each other, the latencies of these messages traveling through the network are then compared to the speed-of-light travelling times in an attempt to verify how far apart nodes are from each other. In later releases, this will allow us to algorithmically verify node locations in a trustworthy way and use the data for network optimisations.
- A new describe command; node operators can run the `describe` command and save a name for their node, a description, and an external link to it. In later releases of the Network Explorer, for each mixnode or gateway there will be a profile page that will show this information and other details about the node. This extra information about nodes will help people make delegated staking decisions once we have delegated staking working.
How will this affect Testnet Finney?
Finney will continue to run. Nodes that are running an older version should upgrade, and new nodes joining the network should run v0.10.1. Both versions will be able to send and receive packets within the same network.
But going forward the daily rewards for nodes running v0.10.0 will be 0.5% of their bonds (down from 1.09%) and will continue to decrease to 0. This is while rewards for those running v0.10.1 will be 2% until May 30th, and then slowly going down to 1%. So the sooner you upgrade the higher your node’s rewards.
How to upgrade to the new version?
As always check Nym’s official docs. If you are running an older version, follow the instructions in the ‘Upgrading from an earlier version’ section of the Mixnode documentation, and use the `upgrade` command to upgrade to the new version. Have in mind you will need to unbond your HALs and then bond them again once you upgrade.
