Multi-layered encryption

With NymVPN, all traffic is tunnel encrypted with 2-5 layers of encryption for very high data security. The Anonymous Mode uses the Sphinx encrypted routing protocol which adds 5 layers of encryption to each data packet. Each layer corresponds with a node on the mixnet which alone possesses the decryption key for that layer. These layers are in addition to any default encryption first established between your device and the public web (e.g., HTTPs). If so, this would equal 6 encryption layers in total. The Fast Mode uses the WireGuard encrypted routing protocols which adds 2 layers of encryption for data packets. Each layer corresponds with an entry and exit gateway on the 2-hop network. These layers are in addition to any default encryption first established between your device and the public web (e.g., HTTPs). If so, this would equal 3 encryption in total.
