2025 will be the year to fight against AI surveillance, but for NymVPN it will also be the Year of Fruit. Welcome Mirabelle, the first release of the new year and one of many releases to come, all packed with seeds to help us in the fight ahead.

NymVPN Mirabelle * includes rebranded app interfaces and important bug fixes for user experience, including offline detection (on Android currently). But ahead of the commercial launch of NymVPN to the world on 13 March 2025, Nym is proud to introduce the first big feature of the year: Nym’s first foray into censorship resistance territory with AmneziaWG for the NymVPN Fast Mode.

  • Linux upgrade will follow soon.

AmneziaWG

AmneziaWG is a fork of the WireGuard encrypted routing protocol which helps guard against deep packet inspection (DPI) techniques. By identifying packet types unique to the WireGuard protocol, censorship measures can block traffic associated with a VPN, thus prohibiting people from accessing censored information. AmneziaWG allows WireGuard traffic to more easily blend in with regular internet traffic and avoid detection by censoring authorities.

Read more about Nym’s roadmap for censorship resistance in 2025, and its recent research on global censorship and how it can be overcome with NymVPN.

And stay tuned for a deep dive into how AmneziaWG works as a censorship resistance tool in the NymVPN arsenal!

Introducing rebranded apps

Following Nym’s 2025 rebrand and new visual identity, NymVPN Linux and Windows apps have undergone a facelift.

Offline detection

Knowing when and if your device is connected is crucial for people using a VPN. Nym is introducing an improved offline detection system, ensuring NymVPN accurately reflects your connectivity status and knows when it’s online or needs to reconnect. This is available on Android effective immediately, and will be released on other platforms in the upcoming release.

Keep in mind that with the launch of NymVPN in March, users should expect a kill switch to prevent any accidental leaks due to connectivity issues.

What’s next

New releases will follow over the next 6 weeks in the lead up to launch. The key features to look out for are:

  • Offline detection on all platforms
  • Go-live of zk-nyms-enabled access control and gateways incentives
  • Beta payments in NYM and credit/debit cards (via Stripe)
  • Kill switch

Next week we will be announcing an incentivized community project to help test the NymVPN payment system at the end of February to make sure it is tip-top for the market.

And stay tuned for a live demonstration of the perpetual buyback mechanism for the NYM token as beta payments start rolling in.
