Action needed: Update NymVPN ahead of an upcoming network upgrade

Nym will running a scheduled upgrade to part of the network that keeps NymVPN private. It changes nothing you'll see in the app, but there's one thing worth doing now to avoid any interruption: make sure you're on the latest release as soon as you can.

This upgrade strengthens the core thing Nym is built to do: keep your VPN access unlinkable to your identity.

What's happening

NymVPN issues anonymous credentials zk-nyms through a decentralized set of independent operators. This ensures that your access to the network can't be tied back to who you are. Nym will be rotating that system's signing keys and refreshing the operators who run it. The result is a more robust, more decentralized foundation for the credentials that protect your privacy.

For most people this upgrade will be invisible. If you're on the latest version, your connection keeps working throughout the upgrade. Older versions may be briefly unable to fetch new credentials while it happens, which can interrupt new connections or fresh sign-ins. This is why you should upgrade now if you're using a version of NymVPN older than v2026.12.4.

When will the upgrade happen?

We will announce the exact date soon. There's nothing to wait for: updating now means you're ready whenever it happens.

Upgrade to the latest NymVPN release

Simply check your app for available updates, or download the latest version of NymVPN for your platform. If you're already on the most recent release, you're set.

Note: Any release from v2026.12.4 onward carries what you need for a seamless upgrade, so the current version already covers you. App store approvals can lag by a few days, so check you're on the newest one available.
