v2026.12 is a release about reach: getting the safest connection to more people, in more places, with less in the way. It puts the strongest route one tap away, lets you keep local apps working without switching your protection off, and adds five new languages, including Traditional Chinese, for users behind the world's largest system of internet censorship.

The connection itself is faster and steadier on mobile data, where a VPN is most likely to drop and most likely to matter. That's the point of Nym: privacy built in by design, and within reach of everyone, everywhere.

• Geo-exclusion with split tunneling — route local services outside the tunnel without dropping your protection

One-click connections

The best privacy setup is the one you'll actually use. NymVPN now picks a strong, safe server for you and remembers the ones you trust, so connecting is a single tap.

• Safest is the new default: it picks a strong-performing server in a country next to yours, never your own, so your entry point sits outside your home jurisdiction.
• Random chooses a different server every time, breaking the patterns that traffic analysis looks for.
• Favorites lets you heart the servers you rely on, so they're one tap away next time.
• Recents keeps your last connections to hand, so you never have to rebuild yesterday's setup.

Geo-exclusion with split tunneling

Sometimes a local app needs to see your real location — a bank that blocks foreign IPs, a government portal, a regional service — and turning the VPN off to reach it would expose everything else. v2026.12 gives you two tools for that, so you never have to make that trade.

• Split tunneling sends a whole app outside the tunnel to connect directly.
• Geo-exclusion goes finer: it splits a single app's traffic by destination, routing the local services it talks to outside the tunnel while its international traffic stays protected.

Everything you don't exclude stays inside NymVPN.

Note: Geo-exclusion and split tunneling are available on desktop – macOS, Windows, and Linux – with Firefox or Mullvad Browser recommended for per-destination routing. Currently available for Chinese IPs with more countries coming.

Faster, more reliable connections

On mobile data, a VPN has to survive changing networks and an unstable signal. We reworked the timing of the WireGuard handshake so NymVPN now connects reliably over cellular, where it previously struggled. The result is fewer failed connects and less waiting when you're away from Wi-Fi.

This release also improves DNS handling over IPv6, handles device clock differences more gracefully, and keeps essential tunnel traffic routed correctly when apps bypass the LAN.

New languages

Privacy tools matter most where the internet is least free. v2026.12 adds five new languages:

• Traditional Chinese
• Traditional Chinese (Hong Kong)
• Japanese
• Italian
• Indonesian

It's part of an ongoing push to make NymVPN usable for everyone who needs it, in their own language: for people living under censorship, a VPN they can actually read is a necessity, not a nicety.

On Android, a camouflage icon lets you hide NymVPN behind a discreet alternative icon from Settings → Appearance: in some places, simply having a VPN installed is a risk in itself.
