NymVPN 2026.11 is an important release for us at Nym. There are new features and improvements to the core of what makes NymVPN Nym: a customizable mixnet experience, increased verifiability of decentralization, pragmatic use in restricted environments, and much improved connection times so your privacy doesn't have to wait.

And there’s even small things that can make a big difference for some, like being able to disguise your NymVPN app on your device.

Here’s what’s new in NymVPN v2026.11:

  • New Mixnet Tuning feature
  • New Server Families system
  • New Geo-exclusion (beta) feature
  • New daily fair usage allowance
  • Stronger ad blocking on iOS
  • Disguises for NymVPN on your device
  • Faster connections and better access in restricted regions
  • UX and performance improvements across all apps

Introducing Mixnet Tuning (beta)

The mixnet is Nym’s flagship tech: it offers the most anonymous way to be online. And now you can customize how the mixnet works for you, tuning how much cover traffic and delays are introduced into your traffic flow.

Anonymity is achieved by balancing latency with protection: the more anonymous you are, the slower the traffic is going to be, and vice versa. Mixnet tuning allows you to play with your configs, increasing your anonymity by adding more cover traffic through the network and timing delays (or mixing) at the level of mix nodes.

Nym’s recommended default settings stay there for you to go back to, so have fun and make your own custom mixnet in-app!

Read about how Mixnet Tuning works from Ania Piotrowska, Nym's Chief Scientific Offider.

Introducing Server Families

The servers powering the Nym network are community-run, independent, and decentralized. Nym doesn’t control who can set up servers, and anyone is encouraged to! But one issue is that users might unknowingly select entry and exit servers that belong to the same operator, ASN, or subnet. In practice, this would reduce decentralization for the user, since a single operator would handle the traffic at both ends of the network.

To prevent this, Nym network operations have introduced what we call Server Families: operator-declared groupings so that NymVPN users can know when two different servers are operated under the same entity.

In practice, this means that if you select two servers from the same family, you will receive a warning to choose another pair or connect anyway. These notifications can be disabled anytime in Settings > Notifications.

Introducing Geo-exclusion (beta) for desktop apps

NymVPN’s new beta feature for desktop apps allows you to exclude certain countries from the VPN tunnel via SOCKS5 so that traffic going to those IPs will connect directly without proxy. This means that if you need to access local connections (like news, banking, or public services) that don’t permit or need the VPN proxy, you can exclude these IPs while routing everything else through NymVPN.

Note: Geo-exclusion options are currently only available for China, but more countries and regions are in development.

New daily allowance

NymVPN does not bandwidth throttle users, but we do have a fair usage or allowance only to prevent the network being spamming.

This allowance has been changed to a much larger daily allowance rather than the previous monthly allowance. It will reset automatically every 24 hours.

The great news is that we expect this to solve the “bandwidth exceeded” errors wrongly appearing for users! If you do receive an error message that says you’ve reached your limits, please contact us.

Disguise the app

You can now switch to an alternate app icon to keep NymVPN discreet. Make NymVPN seem like a calculator, for example, so no one with access to or view of your phone will know you’re even using a VPN.

The Linux tray icon has also been updated so you can show/hide the app.

Fixes & improvements

  • All apps: Refresh button in Account that allows users to manually refresh account
  • iOS: Sign-in fix so that a fresh install with an active subscription no longer shows “no subscription”
  • iOS: Stronger ad blocking with coverage of subdomains
  • Android: Android Auto is no longer routed through the VPN, so in-car connections work normally.
  • macOS: Dark mode buttons in error messages are now more readable.
  • macOS: Compatibility patch for split-tunneling on macOS >= 14.6, < 15.1
  • Windows & Linux: New Debug logs toggle added in Settings to enable/disable logging. App logs now saved to file system.

Linux changes

  • Updated tray icon allows you to show/hide the app
  • Disable NetworkManager's connectivity check before applying firewall rules
  • No more drops on large downloads
  • Fixed internet not working for some users after connecting
  • Improved Arch Linux packaging with AUR distribution and ARM64 (aarch64) support
